The unforgiving city of Philadelphia is the home base for the Ska/Reggae Punk act Eastern Function. The band was founded in 2013 by lead singer and guitarist Greg Cop. This group of talented musicians brings a flowing combination of three gritty styles to form the hallmark of this power trio’s brand. You never quite know what you will be getting from Eastern Function. Whether it’s a head-bashing punk track, or a laid back island vibe, one thing is for sure, they are here .... And they are here to stay. They consistently guarantee their fans one hell of an exciting show, and leave them with an overwhelming desire to party with the band afterwards!
Along with guitarist and lead vocalist Greg Cop, other members include Tucker Hill on bass & vocals, and Michael Greaser on drums and percussion, all of whom round out this intoxicating trio. With songs that touch on everything from addictions and violence to relationships and traveling, the trio of punks creates a style that can be heard in speakers of the cities or the suburbs.
Over the years Eastern Function has been performing at venues up and down the East coast, always drawing sell-out crowds. Before its recent closing, the band was a near staple at the prominent Philly venue, the Trocadero Theatre; they have also recently performed with the high-profile act, “No Such Noise” at The Barbary. Drew Wellenbusher, radio DJ of the popular New Jersey radio station 88.9 WMCX in Long Branch, has also spun pervious records. Aspirations for future performances include the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
The band exhibits an undeniable “Sublime-Like” vibe. Other influences include Operation Ivy, Bad Brains, The Clash, The Dead Milkmen, Death Grips, and Rage Against the Machine. When asked, can you have increasing commercial success and retain your artistic integrity ..... “Absolutely, states Greg Cop, we have never let anything get in the way of our artistic expression”.
After a successful EP release in 2016 entitled “Jawn”, Eastern Function is currently in post- production for their upcoming debut full length album to be titled “Medicine”. The new full length will be produced by Casey Cavaliere, producer, songwriter, and guitarist for the top 20 Billboard charting pop-punk band, “The Wonder Years” (Hopeless/UniversalTM). The record will be recorded at the state-of-the-art studio “True Level Studios” in Blackwood, New Jersey. If all
goes well, and on schedule, the new album is earmarked to hit the streets in late May – early June of this year. The release of the new album will be followed by a national tour in late summer into the fall.
Eastern Function is truly a major force to be reckoned in the music industry’s Ska/Reggae, and Punk arena. The act has truly just begun to flourish, and will no-doubt continue on this path for a very long time to come. It doesn’t seem as though anything can or will slow them down. If you’re a music fan that’s into dynamic, powerful, and hard driving intelligent music, Eastern Function is a must-see!
